Yes. A third party — a family member, a friend, an employer, or anyone else acting on your behalf — can make a payment toward your account. There is no restriction on who makes the payment, provided it is applied to the correct account using the right reference number.
How a third-party payment works:
- The person paying needs your reference number so the payment is matched to your account, not someone else's.
- They can pay by any of the methods available for your account — card online, bank transfer, or BPAY. The payment methods article sets out the options.
- For card payments made through the Pay your balance page, no account login is needed — just the reference number and the card details of the person paying.
- For bank transfers, the person paying should include your reference number in the payment description.
A note on representation: Paying on your behalf and acting on your behalf in negotiations or disputes are different things. If you would like someone else to speak with us or make decisions about your account — for example, a family member negotiating a payment arrangement — you need to give us your consent. Contact us to set this up.
There is no shame in having help. If a third-party payment is going to resolve the account, that is a good outcome for everyone.
