Can I make a partial payment?

Payments & arrangements

Yes. If you are unable to pay the full amount outstanding, a partial payment is still worthwhile. It reduces your balance, it demonstrates good faith, and it is always better than making no payment at all.

You can make a partial payment online through the portal or Pay your balance page, or by bank transfer using the details in your letter. Always quote your reference number so the payment is matched to your account correctly.

Making a partial payment does not automatically set up an arrangement for the rest of the balance. If you would like to pay the remainder in further instalments, you should also propose a payment plan — see the article on setting up a payment arrangement or use the Request a Payment Arrangement form.

If paying anything at all is difficult right now, see the articles under Hardship & support, or call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 for free financial counselling.
