Can I pause recovery on an account I've referred?

For businesses

Yes. If you need to pause recovery activity on an account you have already referred to Merion, you can request a hold at any time. There are a number of legitimate reasons to do this, and we accommodate them routinely.

Reasons you might put an account on hold:

  • You are in direct negotiations with the debtor and want to give the conversation time to conclude without concurrent recovery pressure.
  • You have received information that affects the validity of the debt — for example, a dispute you were not previously aware of, or a credit that should have been applied.
  • The debtor is in financial difficulty and you have decided, as a matter of policy or relationship management, to allow them more time.
  • A third party is involved — for example, an insurer assessing a claim — and you want to wait for that process to conclude.
  • You are reviewing the account internally before deciding how to proceed.

How to request a hold: Contact us, quote the account reference number, and let us know that you want recovery paused and for how long (if you have a specific timeframe in mind). We will update the account status and stop active recovery from the date of your request.

A hold is not a withdrawal. The account remains with Merion and can be reactivated when you are ready. Contact us again to lift the hold and resume recovery.
