Can Merion contact my employer?

About your debt

A debt collector may contact your workplace in limited circumstances — typically when other contact details are unavailable or out of date and an attempt needs to be made to locate you. However, the ACCC and ASIC debt collection guideline places strict limits on how this is done.

Workplace contact must be discreet. We will not tell your employer, colleagues or anyone else that you have been contacted about a debt. We will only ask for a way to reach you personally — for example, your phone number or personal email address — and once we have that, we will use it.

If you prefer we did not contact your workplace, tell us. If you provide a working personal contact — a mobile number or personal email — we will use that instead and not contact your employer.

If you believe contact at your workplace has gone beyond what is appropriate, you are entitled to raise it as a complaint. See the article on making a complaint, or contact us directly.
