What is an external dispute resolution body?

Disputes & complaints

An external dispute resolution (EDR) body is an independent organisation that can review a complaint or dispute if you are not satisfied with the outcome from Merion directly. In Australia, several bodies can assist depending on the nature of your complaint.

  • AFCA (Australian Financial Complaints Authority) — handles complaints about financial products and services, including debts connected to them. Free and independent. afca.org.au
  • ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) — oversees the debt collection guideline and handles complaints about collection conduct. accc.gov.au
  • ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) — jointly oversees the debt collection guideline. asic.gov.au
  • OAIC (Office of the Australian Information Commissioner) — handles complaints about how personal information has been handled. oaic.gov.au
  • State-based bodies — some states have consumer affairs or fair trading offices that can also assist with debt collection complaints.

We cooperate fully with any external review and will provide the information needed. If you would like to escalate a complaint, let us know and we will provide the relevant contact details.
