Once you have referred a debt to Merion, it is important that any direct contact from the debtor about that account is directed back to us rather than negotiated separately.
Why this matters:
- If you negotiate separately with a debtor at the same time as Merion is pursuing the account, it creates confusion about who the debtor should be dealing with and on what terms.
- Any payment or arrangement agreed directly with you may not be recorded on our end, which can mean recovery contact continues even after the debtor has engaged with you — causing unnecessary friction.
- If the debtor makes a payment directly to you, our commission on that amount may still apply under your service agreement — but only if we are told promptly and can close the account.
What to do:
- Tell the debtor politely that the account has been referred to Merion and they should contact us directly to resolve it. Provide them with our contact details, which are on our website.
- Contact us and let us know the debtor has been in touch with you, and what they said. This helps us follow up effectively and avoids duplication.
- Do not enter into a payment agreement or accept payment for a referred account without letting us know — it can complicate the matter and your commission obligations.
If you are ever unsure how to handle a specific contact, call us and we will advise you.
