What's happening

Some of the personal details held about your account are wrong or out of date — perhaps your name is misspelt, your address has changed, or your contact details are incorrect. Keeping these accurate matters, because it makes sure letters reach the right person and avoids confusion with someone of a similar name.

This is general information, not legal advice. If you are unsure, the free services below can help.

What to do

Tell us, in writing, which details are incorrect and what the correct details are. Quote your reference so the right record is updated, and keep a note of the date you asked. If a detail is wrong because the account may not be yours at all, that is a different matter and should be raised as a dispute.

Step by step

  1. Note your reference and the details that need correcting.
  2. Write to us setting out the incorrect detail and the correct one.
  3. Provide any supporting information if your name or address has formally changed.
  4. Ask us to confirm once your record has been updated.
  5. Keep a dated copy of your request.
  6. If the wrong detail suggests the account is not yours, raise it as a dispute instead.

Who to contact

Request the correction through the contact page, quoting your reference. Our Help Centre has more on keeping your details up to date. For free, independent advice, call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007. If a related dispute cannot be resolved, an external scheme such as AFCA may be able to consider it.

FAQ

How do I get my details corrected?

Write to us with the incorrect detail and the correct one, quoting your reference, and ask for confirmation once your record has been updated.

Do I need to prove a name or address change?

For a formal change, some supporting information may help. Tell us the correct details and ask what, if anything, is needed to update your record.

What if the wrong detail means it isn't my account?

That is a different matter. Rather than just correcting a detail, raise it as a dispute so the account itself can be checked. See our guidance on accounts that may not be yours.
