A serious illness — whether it affects you directly or a member of your household — can have a profound effect on your finances and your capacity to manage accounts. This is a recognised form of hardship, and we can accommodate it.
If you are dealing with a serious illness, please contact us and let us know. You do not need to provide detailed medical information to access a more flexible arrangement. What helps is a general picture of your situation: what has changed, what you can realistically manage, and for how long.
Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to:
- pause recovery activity for a period while you focus on your health;
- set up a reduced-payment arrangement that fits your current income;
- review the account again when your circumstances stabilise.
You are also welcome to have someone else deal with us on your behalf — a family member, carer or financial counsellor. Free financial counselling is available through the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007.
