What documents do I need to apply for hardship?

Hardship & support

You do not need to have every document in hand before you contact us about hardship — starting the conversation early is what matters most. That said, having some supporting information ready will help us understand your situation and put an appropriate arrangement in place more quickly.

Useful documents may include:

  • Income evidence — recent payslips, bank statements showing regular income, or a Centrelink income statement if you are receiving government payments.
  • Centrelink statements — a letter or online statement from Services Australia showing the type and amount of payment you receive. You can obtain this through your myGov account.
  • Medical documentation — if your hardship is related to illness or injury, a brief letter from your GP or treating specialist (you do not need to share detailed medical records — a general statement about how your health affects your capacity to work or manage finances is enough).
  • Expense overview — a rough summary of your regular essential expenses — rent or mortgage, utilities, food, transport — helps us understand what is available for debt repayment.
  • Other debt obligations — a list of other debts or financial commitments you are managing can help us understand your overall position.

If you do not have all of these, do not let that stop you. Contact us or submit a Request a Payment Arrangement with what you have, and we will work with you from there.
