You're not alone
A payment plan simply breaks what you owe into smaller, regular amounts — weekly, fortnightly or monthly — so it fits around your everyday costs. It is one of the most common and sensible ways to resolve an account, and asking for one is genuinely welcome.
You do not need to justify wanting smaller payments. Lots of people find a plan far easier than a single lump sum, and we would much rather agree on something steady that works than leave you struggling.
What you can do
The key is to pick an amount you can keep up without dipping into money you need for essentials. A smaller payment you can maintain is better than a larger one you cannot.
- Look at your income and essential costs, then decide what is comfortably left over.
- Choose how often you would like to pay — weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
- Have your account or reference number ready.
- Be ready to start with whatever you can genuinely manage.
Step by step
- Grab your account number from your notice.
- Work out a payment amount and frequency that fits your budget.
- Contact us through the contact form or reply to your letter, and say you would like to set up a payment plan.
- Tell us your proposed amount and how often you can pay.
- Once we confirm the plan, set yourself a reminder for each payment date.

FAQ
How small can my payments be?
There is no shame in starting small. Tell us what you can realistically manage and we will work from there — steady progress matters more than the size of each payment.
Can I change the plan later if things change?
Yes. If your situation shifts, just get in touch and we can review the arrangement. Plans are meant to fit your life, not the other way around.
Do I have to pay a fee to set up a plan?
Setting up a plan with us is part of resolving your account. If you want independent help, financial counselling through the National Debt Helpline is free.
