When to withdraw

You might withdraw a referred debt because the debtor has paid you directly, you have reached a private settlement, or you have decided not to pursue it. Whatever the reason, it is important to tell us promptly so we stop acting and your records stay accurate.

How to withdraw

  1. Find the matter reference for the debt you want to withdraw.
  2. Contact your recovery officer and state you wish to withdraw it.
  3. Explain the reason, such as payment received or settlement reached.
  4. Confirm any amount the debtor has paid you directly.
  5. Ask for written confirmation that the matter is closed.
  6. Update your own ledger to reflect the closure.

Prompt, clear communication avoids any crossed wires with the debtor.

Commission on withdrawal

If recovery work has already led to payment, commission may still apply even where the debtor paid you directly, so check how the commission model works. If you simply change your mind before any recovery, withdrawing is straightforward. You can always refer the debt again later at merion.com.au/refer-a-debt.

Good to know

  • Tell us promptly when a debt no longer needs recovery
  • Confirm any direct payment and get written closure
  • Commission may still apply where recovery work led to payment
