Why asking early helps
Requesting more time is a normal part of resolving an account. When you ask before a due date rather than after, it shows good faith and gives us room to be flexible. Silence, by contrast, leaves us unable to help.
Step by step
- Work out a realistic date or timeframe by which you can pay or start paying.
- Contact us through the Help Centre before any current due date passes.
- Briefly explain your situation and the extra time you are asking for.
- If you can pay part now, offer it — it strengthens your request.
- Agree the new timeframe, and ask for it to be confirmed in writing.
- When the time comes, pay on the Pay your balance page using your reference number.
If you need ongoing flexibility
If a single extension is not enough and you need a longer-term solution, a payment plan may suit you better. See our guide on how to set up a payment plan to spread the balance over time.
Good to know
- Ask for more time before a due date, not after.
- Offering a part payment strengthens your request.
- Get any new timeframe confirmed in writing.
- For ongoing needs, a payment plan may be better.
